Top 3 Beginner Drum Lessons Courses Online
When learning the drums you’re only as good as the instructor or course you’re learning from. Because private lessons can cost up to $75 an hour more and more beginner drummers are opting to take beginner drum lessons at home using video courses such as the ones below.
DrumLessonDVD.org was created by me, a would be beginner drummer, to help you find the best beginners drum lessons available online.
During the comparison I considered the topics covered, quality of instructor and instructor, video quality, additional materials offered and available support.
#1 Learn and Master Drums
Legacy Learning Systems, the creators of the Learn & Master Drums course, are by far the leaders in the home video music instruction industry.
This course covers a long list of topics aimed at making you a well rounded drummer with the ability to play a lot of different styles.

Learn & Master Drums is written and taught by Dann Sherill (click here to read his bio), a professional drum and percussion sessions musician and instructor in Nashville TN. Dann makes his living playing and teaching the drums, often to beginners, so he knows how to properly teach these topics in a beginner drum lessons.
The video quality on the DVDs which contain the majority of the lesson content is top notch. They use multiple camera angles to capture what’s going on all over the drum kit (snare, high hat, kick etc.). This is an excellent learning tool since hearing someone explain something often isn’t enough. Watching someone do something is much better.

Additional materials supplied with the course are: 5 Jam Along Cds used for practicing your new skills as your learn, full workbook/lesson book that provides a review of each video lesson and practice exercises and lastly unlimited access to the online support website and community.
The Jam Cds with the course are a great added feature and make practicing the drums a lot more enjoyable then just playing beats on your own.

#2 Drumming System
This is the largest beginner drumming course we reviewed. By largest we mean this course covers a lot of ground on the 20 DVDs included.
Besides the DVDs the Drumming System includes Jam Along DVDs for video jam sessions, Jam Along CDs for audio jam sessions and 5 different work books you can use for practicing and review as you progress with these beginner drum lessons.
The Drumming System covers the basics of most major styles of drumming (rock, jazz, latin etc.). This approach to teaching helps you become a well rounded beginner drummer as you learn.
The reason we didn’t rank these beginning drum lessons as #1 is because we thought there might just be too much content, and the price point is almost $100 higher then Learn and Master Drums.
Don’t get me wrong, all of the lesson content in this course is useful but from a beginners stand point I don’t know that you need it all right out of the gate. The same company, Rail Road Media, who produced the Drumming System also created our next pick. If you’d like to try one of their courses you might find the Rock Drumming System to be a better course to start with.

#3 Rock Drumming System
The Rock Drumming System is the baby brother to our previous recommendation the Drumming System. While this course specifically targets rock drummers it covers the basics of beginner drum lessons well.
The course includes 4 DVDs, 4 Workbooks and a Jam Along CD.
The structure of this course is to get you learning particular patterns and fills quickly so you can start making some beats and jamming with others in a rock and roll style. This is a quick and easy way to learn the drums as a beginner and will probably be attractive to many who are looking to play covers songs with friends.
The DVDs and Workbooks are separated into beginner, intermediate and advanced topics. While the play along DVD and CD cover 10 different complete songs you can use to play along with as you practice.
The video quality of these beginners drum lessons are great often using a 4-way split screen to illustrate what the instructor, Jared Falk, is doing on the high hat, snare and kick drum.
Over all this is a solid beginners course, but it only covers one main style, rock and roll. How ever the price point of under $100 reflects that fact that it’s not as in depth as Learn and Master Drums or the Drumming System.
