#2 Drumming System

The Drumming System, by Rail Road Media Inc, is a newer learn drums dvd program. It follows a similar lesson plan to that of Learn & Master drums but it includes a bit more content across 20 learn to play drums dvds.

The video quality is top notch, shot with several HD cameras and provides 4-way split screen shots on the cymbals, toms, snare, high hat and kick drum when the instructor is demonstrating a new concept.

Instructor Mike Michalkow is a world class performer, studio musician and instructor. He’s well respected by professionals in the industry and they have some very nice testimonials from industry professionals on their website.

Beyond learn drum dvds there are five workbooks and a Jam Along DVD and CD. The DVD contains video tracks of the full band playing the Jam Along songs. This is a neat concept to get a feel for each song and the drum parts. How ever unless you’re using a V-Drum kit I don’t think most people will have their kit setup in the living room to play along with the video. Jam Along Cds work quite well and are easy to use.

The Drumming System sells for $247, and they offer a variety of easy monthly payment options. This course is the most in depth for drumming topics, but it is also the most expensive.

#3 Rock Drumming System

The Rock Drumming System is also produced by Rail Road Media Inc. It includes some of the great features of the Drumming System, such as 4-way split screen, but is focussed only on rock drumming and rock drum patterns.

This learn drums dvd is great value for someone who is primarily interested in learning rock drumming patterns. While it doesn’t offer instruction on any other style of drumming such as jazz or latin it does provide a very detailed overview of beginner, intermediate and advanced rock drumming topics.

There are 3 learn to drum dvds included with the course each accompanied by a lesson book. The videos are shot in HD and offer multiple angles to help you quickly pick up each new pattern taught.

The instructor, Jared Falk, is an advanced rock drummer who plays in a variety of bands and teaches one-on-one drumming lessons. He has a very soft spoken way about him with his teaching that is great for beginners.

This course offers great value to those aspiring to be rock drummers, or just learn some patterns and fills. For the $100 price point it’s the least expensive course we’ve reviewed.
